Emma McCaul and Darcy Lisecki collaborate for risqué show
Female bodies in provocative poses will aim to entertain and shock event-goers at Artspots upcoming show.
On Saturday, the main floor of Artspot will turn into showing space for the FUKD collection.
The next show is going to push the limits both with name and content. The FUKD show will feature a collaborative collection by Darcy Lisecki and Emma McCaul. Designed to “push the boundaries of modern day erotica,” FUKD will feature, “perspectives of sexual expression,” according to the Artspot website.
Artwork will be based on the female body and “fetish stuff,” McCaul says. Event-goers will be offered alcoholic beverages in return for a cash donation. The show will also feature a line-up of DJs. FUKD will be the first of its kind for Artspot and has been made an 18-plus event, McCaul said.
Lisecki dabbles in various mediums of art, including oil painting on canvas. Much of his artwork can be found around Calgary.

“We decided to do something to shock Calgary, put alternative art on the map. We might not be able to have it in another gallery (because) other people would not accept this,” McCaul said. “I wouldn’t say it necessarily offends people but it would just shock people. We are trying to do it as a social experiment, see how Calgary reacts to this kind of thing. This may in turn shape us more as artists and where we go with our collection,” McCaul said.
“We’re doing something different because it’s not solely for the purpose of selling it, we’re doing it to say something,” McCaul said. “We might be taking that risk, investing a lot of time and money into something that might not be financially beneficial for us at the end. We’re going out on a limb here.”
Past Artspot shows have brought in, on average, 100 to 200 people and McCaul expects the same turnout for FUKD.
“I expect a lot, especially because the DJs have their own following,” McCaul said. “People have been following Darcy (Lisecki's) career for a long time. He’s stepping out of his comfort zone in this show so that will draw a lot of people as well.”
Lisecki’s artwork can be found all over Canada and is on display in Las Vegas. In Calgary alone, his artwork can be found at Lloyd's Recreation, French Maid, Crown Surplus Stores Inc., the Calgary airport and many other locations.
“What I want to achieve is an awkward sensation in the viewer when they first view the work,” Lisecki said. “(To) question themselves, why they are looking at it and why they are intrigued by it.”
The event will also feature beats by artist Darren Koop, better known as Dubly Sure. Koop will perform with three other artists - including CJSW’s Lotus Queen - that night in order to help set the mood for the event.
This being his first performance at Artspot, Koop said that those planning to go should expect, “a lot of fun and a lot of bass.”
Since FUKD is an 18-plus event, those who plan to attend must show ID at the door. The show will be premiering on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 8 p.m. to midnight. Artspot is located at 1040 14th Ave. S.W.
Tickets can be purchased for $5 in advance from Giant 45, Little Shop of Pleasures, Plan B Kustom and Ghost Town Tattoo. Tickets will be $10 at the door. For more information visit Artspot.
