Malcolm Gladwell, acclaimed author of "The Tipping Point" and "Outliers," spoke to a sold-out audience at the Jack Singer Concert Hall on Thursday night as part of Mount Royal University's Legacy of Ideas series. Gladwell drew laughter and applause from the crowd when, in answering a question about the role of social media in bringing about social revolutions that included mention of Mayor Naheed Nenshi's election campaign, he said, "I respectfully suggest there is a difference between what happened in Calgary and what happened in Egypt." Nenshi responded lightheartedly with a tweet that said, "I think I've just been burned." At the end of the evening, Nenshi took the stage to congratulate Mount Royal on it's 100th anniversary and present Gladwell with Calgary's iconic white cowboy hat.
