When Cheri Macaulay of citizen-advocacy group CivicCamp, was looking for the Brentwood Station Area Redevelopment Plan, she simply searched for “Blakiston Park” on the city’s newly redesigned website.
And there it was as the top result.

Mormon Institute offers stalls to students — with a catch
Rasoul Kabirzadeh, who came to Canada from Iran in 2008 and recently completed a master’s degree in astrophysics, found a free place to park close to the University of Calgary (U of C).
It was at the neighbouring Bow Valley Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS).

With the fall semester beginning this month, some education students are starting to wonder if it’s even worth enrolling.
University graduates in education are finding it hard to get jobs because of recent budget cuts to school boards. This leaves some graduates looking at the possibility of working outside the country to gain much-needed teaching experience.
Samantha den Oudsten, a 24-year-old Mount Royal education graduate, was worried about her future when she started hearing about the teacher lay-offs and the lack of jobs in the field.

The wheels are in motion to get more Calgarians cycling.
City council approved a $28-million cycling strategy, aiming to construct more dedicated cycling lanes — mainly in the city centre — over the next three years.
Cyclist Simon Chauvette said that the strategy is a “bare minimum,” but it’s still a “first step” to get more people on their bikes.

Gay community members share insights of Nenshi’s involvement
Mayor Naheed Nenshi has been named the gay pride parade’s grand marshal.
He will be the first Calgary mayor to marshal the annual Pride Calgary Pride Parade, which is one of many events that will be held next month that celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) living.
